We often use the word primitive to describe this waterfront cottage. We do this to ensure that everyone understands that the cottage ambience is as it was 120 years ago. In fact nothing substantial has been done to the structure to change this ambience. As you see in the photos, considerable effort has been made to ensure the facilities expected in the 21st century are as you need them. This is to ensure that as you enjoy the historic perspective, you will be comfortable and connected in our modern world.

The ‘CMTR Cottage’ (Chignecto Marine Transport Railway) is offered for weekly or longer term rental in the late spring, summer and early autumn. This ‘primitive cottage’ was also used during the construction of the Chignecto Ship’s Railway. While some modern conveniences have been added to the building, most of it sits, as it was 120 years ago. The cottage is located on a lot beside the ‘Ketchum Cottage’.

The cottage is on a bluff that overlooks Baie Verte. The beach below the bluff is an ideal place to explore and enjoy at low tide, and there is enough water to swim for several hours around high tides that occur twice a day (24 hours). Access to the beach is via a walk across the Ketchum cottage lawn, then through the adjacent Provincial Park.

One of the most enjoyed features of the CMTR cottage is the wraparound porch. It’s particularly pleasant as the sun rises across Baie Verte, Nova Scotia forms one side of the Bay and New Brunswick the other. From the porch one looks at the New Brunswick shore across the Bay. The CMTR cottage has one bedroom with a queen bed. The living room has a 20 foot ceiling. It is complete with couches and comfortable chairs and a large TV with Bell satellite reception. In an area between the living room and bedroom there is a quiet nook where one can set up their laptop. Complimentary WiFi is available. There is a dining room area. The kitchen has a regular domestic stove, refrigeration, microwave , dishwasher and ample counter area.
