The Amherst Shore Country Inn offers three waterfront cottages to rent. One cottage, the Inn Cottage, is very close to the sea which is just a short stroll down the driveway. It is called the Inn Cottage because of its location close to the Inn and is an excellent choice if you wish to have dinner or breakfast at the Inn. Just a reminder, advanced reservations are required for meals at the Inn. The Inn Cottage is also a great choice as the Inn’s 600 feet beach is also just a few steps away.

The other two waterfront cottages are located at Tidnish Dock. It’s a site on the Historic Chignecto marine Transport Railway project (CMTR). This project was the inspiration of Henry Ketchum, a renowned 19th century railway engineer. Though the project became one of North America’s largest civil engineering projects of the 19th century, henry did not quite bring it to fruition. Our legacy is the two historic cottages that were the centre of life during the construction of the Northumberland Terminus of the construction. Henry used one as his residence. Some say the other was used as a “cookhouse”, while others report it was used as the engineering office.

Thus naming these historic waterfront cottages was easy. One is called the Ketchum Cottage. The other is called CMTR Cottage. The two cottages are located next to an Historic Waterfront provincial Park dedicated to the memory of the CMTR project. And it’s just a short stroll from the two cottages, via a trail through the woods, to the beach access. The two cottages sit on a bluff giving a panoramic view of the Strait and New Brunswick beyond. Thus the cottages’ location give the best of both the panoramic view and beach access.
